Solid wood furniture - general care advice:

Many thanks for choosing to buy from Sylvan Furniture. We take the utmost care with our choice of products and designs, to give you the best quality. However, since it is a natural product, solid wood does need care and attention:

It is advisable to keep out of direct sunlight, and away from heat sources (at least 3ft away from radiators or fires)otherwise splits or cracks can occur in the timber - avoid placing hot items on furniture (this includes electrical equipment, please place on insulated mat).
Rotate accessories on furniture so they do not sit in the same spot all of the time, lift and place objects, do not drag them across the furniture surface, & make minor repairs while they are still small.

Wood is naturally hydroscopic, meaning that its moisture content varies, depending on local humidity levels. Although, all of our furniture has been naturally and kiln-dried, humidity changes may result in cracking, or movement, resulting in gaps and/or slightly raised edges. Wax crayons may be used to solve this.

Most of our wood is stained and lacquered or waxed. If your furniture is a lacquer finish a damp cloth can be used to mop up spills and a standard furniture polish preferably containing beeswax can be used when neccessary.
For waxed furniture wax should be reapplied every six months, with a soft, clean cloth - please apply in the direction of the grain. Choose clear wax, when no staining is required.

Clean up spills immediately, using a blotting action rather than a wiping action.Furniture sprays should not be used on waxed furniture.

Take care when moving furniture, if your purchase contains glass, in the interests of safety, please, carefully, remove glass before moving (contact showroom for advice, if necessary ).

For extending tables, please open the extension for sufficient periods of time, to ensure equal fading of stain.
